What's happening

May 31, 2003

Welcome back race fans, it's Saturday the 31st and were back at the track. Track management has assured us that the track conditions will be better this week. So far it looks good. Tim has drawn a 56 for our starting position in the heat race and Shane will start 4th row outside. Before the race, we decided to hot lap the car, something we never do. Shane and I have decided to make a drastic change in the chassis and are excited to see if it works.

Shane hits the track and going into turn 1, Tim and I can tell he likes it! Two laps into it and Shane has his left hand on the roll bar and is cruising through the turns one handed (HEY MIKIE, I THINK HE LIKES IT!). After hot laps, Shane said he loves the changes but he couldn't get any r.p.m.'s. After checking the timing and making some adjustments we are ready.

Heat race time and the green drops, Shane ducked to the bottom behind Pete Dutto and followed him into turn 1. Coming out of turn, 2 Pete drifted up and Shane took full advantage and smoked him down the back stretch. Shane took the lead on the 3rd lap and cruised to an easy win. Back in the pits, Shane flipped the tattle tail on the tach, 7400 rpm. Dee reported tire temps and pressures to Shane and I, the #'s are perfect!!!!!!! BRING EM ON!!

Feature time and Deed has drawn a 3 for the invert, we are starting 3rd row out side for the race. There is some pretty fast cars starting in front of us. The green flag drops and Pete Dutto left the field like they were sitting still. The 06 car slid up in front of everyone and got out of shape in turn 1 holding everyone up. By the time Shane got around those guys and into 2nd, Pete had a straight away lead. Shane seemed to settle in and was flying around the track. I clocked Pete @ 21.04 seconds and Shane @ 20.15 seconds. This shouldn't take too long.

6 laps into the race and Shane has caught Pete when the caution came out bunching the field back up. When the green flew Shane was all over Pete through turns 1 and 2 and down the back stretch. Shane must have made Pete nervous because Pete lost his cool and his line in 3 and 4 and allowed Shane to get under him and stroke him down the front straight (sounds kinda perverted doesn't it?). Anyway Shane held onto the lead for the next 13 laps, Pete tried everything to get it back until he lost it in turn 1 with 7 laps remaining, putting him and the 9 car to the rear for causing the yellow. Shane put it on 'em for the next 7 laps and held on for the win. I have said it before but Damn this boy can drive! Thanks to the crew and to Shane for this one, Get back to ya later..........
