What's happening
May 24, 2003
Welcome back race fans! It's Saturday the 24th and it's race time again.
At first glance, the track looks like it is going to be awesome, until the
officials decide it needs more water after we packed it. Didn't they learn
last time? After hot laps, they had to bring out the maintainer and cut
the ruts out of the track, so it was 8:30 before the heat races started.
Shane is starting 3rd row outside for the heat and ran an awesome race.
The only bad part was the track was so messed up, it was one of those
whoever starts up front, stays up front! Shane did his part and was able
to muster a 3rd, almost had 2nd but needed 1 more lap.
After cleaning the car and filling her up it was feature time. They pulled
a 7 for the invert and Shane is starting 5th row outside. The green flew
and Shane hit the top and was in 4th coming out of turn 2 when the
caution came out. You guessed it the racing surface has already taken it's
toll. After getting all of the cars lined back up the green flew again.
Shane again was in 4th coming out of 2 and was working on third place.
The car looks pretty good and 5 laps into it, he had the lead. Shane held
on to the lead until 5 laps remaining, the 91 was able to get under him
coming out of 4. With 2 laps left the 9 car got under him and took over
2nd, Shane just can't seem to hold the car on the bottom. The checkers
waived with Shane holding onto 3rd. Back in the pits things were beginning
to become clear. The left front tire only had 2 pounds of air, and the front
suspension was trashed. No one told us we were MOTOR CROSS RACING!
It's pretty bad when you get $200.00 for 3rd but it cost you $350.00 to
repair the suspension damage. But.... we have faith the the track management
will learn from their mistakes and we will return. Get back to you next week.
The team and I have a lot of repairs to make.
