What's happening
May 17, 2003
Welcome back race fans.
Its saturday the 17th and we are back at the track.
Man it's hot this weekend. Thank goodness for A/C in the race van. It sure
helps. Anyway, Tim drew 46 for the heat race and we are starting 3rd row inside.
The track looks a lot better this weekend (the owners cut back on the water). It's going to go dry by the end of the night. Back to the race, the line up
is good and the green drops coming out of 4 and they're off. Shane took the lead on
lap 2 going into turn 1 and never looked back. The 06 car was starting to catch up
to him when the caution came out with three laps remaining. I gave Shane the sign
that they were closing on him and thats all he needed. When the green flew again
Shane hammered it and left 'em behind. He took the checkers with about ten car
lengths to spare.
After clearing tech we settled down and watched some racing until feature
time. Tim drew a 3 for the invert so we are starting 3rd row inside again (good
job Tim - at least it wasn't a 7). The track is seriously dry and slick so the crew and
I adjust the chassis accordingly and buckle Shane into the seat. After a round of
knuckles it's time to go to the infield. The line up is good and they are off. Shane moved
into 3rd quickly and worked his way to 2nd behind Pete Dutto in the 21 car. The race had
several cautions, luckily all behind us. At the end of 20 laps, Shane had held onto
2nd with Pete as the winner. The car isn't hooking up real well coming out of the
turns so I have some home work to do. Shane drove a hell of a race. We get back to you
next week with more.
