What's happening
May 03, 2003
Welcome back race fans, It's been a long 3 weeks off waiting on the new
engine. We would like to thank Frank Carlson at Katy Houston Machine for picking us
up and putting us back on the track. Saturday March 3rd rolled around and we
arrived at the track, the weather is awesome, hasn't rained for several days and the track
looks smooth and fast. Shane hot lapped the car, but couldn't tell much, the track was too
slick after packing. Heat race time and Shane is 3rd row outside when the green drops.
Shane nailed it and flew into 2nd place going into the first turn, on lap 2 he
took the lead and looked back. Man so far the new motor seems like its got enough. After the
race and passing tech, Shane said the motor has no bottom end torque. Tim and I
checked the timing and changed it to 38 degrees, lets see if that does the trick.
Feature time and we are starting row 5 outside. Thanks Roy for drawing a
5!!!
Anyway Shane is good enough. He will work his way to the front without too
much trouble. The green dropped and Shane took off on the top for the 1st 2 laps
and was in 5th before we knew it, then he dove to the bottom and started picking them
off one at a time. Damn this boy can drive! At lap seven, Shane took the lead from Deed
in the 17 car and seemed to have found his groove. At lap 14, Pete in the 21 car had caught
up to Shane and the car seems to be getting looser and looser. Pete got under Shane
coming out of 4 and took the lead away. Now the race is on. Shane and Pete battled it out
for a couple of laps. Shane almost had him coming out of 4 and popped Pete in the rear to
let him know he was still there. But as luck has it I (and I take all of the credit)
missed the set up terribly and the car has no side bite or forward bite at all. Shane manages to drive this flying turd and finish a very respectable 3rd place. THANK YOU SHANE FOR DRIVING YOUR
ASS OFF!
Back at the trailer, we found more problems. Besides me choosing the wrong
right rear tire, the left rear spring has collapsed and the shock has been bottoming out. Got
some work to do this week, but for now it's beer time. Back to you
later with more.
