What's happening

March 22, 2003 Welcome back race fans, it's Saturday and we are back at the track to try it again. Our buddy, Rick Koch ,decided to pull his car out of the moth balls. That's good. He is stiff competition. We're getting better at this drawing for the start. Got a 16 this week and we're starting on the pole of the 2nd heat.

The oil leaks are fixed and we think we are ready. The cars are on the track and the flag flew. Shane hit turn one like a man possessed, coming out of 2 Shane had 4 car links, I looked at Dee (the tire man) and held up my arm to say he's gone, Dee smiled and watched as Shane checked out on the rest of the field. 4 laps into the heat and Shane was a half a track over 2nd, Dee and I were in turn 1 trying to get Shane to back out a bit. It was looking pretty bad, Shane slowed and cruised to a victory.

For the feature, they pulled a 5 for the invert. Man... 5th row, outside really bites. Line 'em up and lets race. The flag flew and the race is on. Here comes pride up the back stretch (oh sorry. thats a song) But hey, thats what it was looking like. Three laps into it and the cars had separated into 2 groups, kinda like the Tour De France and a breakaway. Then Shane busted out of the 2nd pack and mounted a charge. 2 laps later Shane had run them down and moved into 5th. He slowly worked into 3rd and was battling Pete for 2nd. Rick had taken the lead. Shane got past Pete and was working on Rick for the lead when the caution came out with 2 laps remaining. When the race resumed Shane tried to pull out all the stops and worked his way under Rick on the last lap coming out of 2. But the car started to push and Shane tapped the brake and let Rick go. Shane won't race dirty to win, and I commend him for that!

Anyway Rick took the win and we came home with 2nd, but the car is in one piece and we got a couple of dollars to boot.

Get back to you in a couple of weeks with more.
