What's happening
March 15, 2003
Welcome back race fans, it's Saturday again and we are back at the
track. The crew busted their rears during the week to get the
backup motor in the car. We named it the Little Wonder, it's
little and we wonder how long before it blows. All of the guys
signed the motor, it even has a bandaid over the #8 cylinder.
The track looks good and it's going to be dry, slick ( there IS a
racing God after all!). We drew for a start, a little better this
week, 47, going to start 3rd row inside. The green flag flew and
Shane hit the gas and dove to the inside but the 48 car decided
to turn left down the straight a way and Shane turned him sideways
(there goes a fender ). Shane lifted and left him straighten out
then hit the turn and blew past him. Several other cars piled
up on the back straight bring out the yellow. The track officials
get the cars lined back up (not correctly though, come on scorer's).
The green came out and Shane went to the front and took the lead
in two laps. The car is smoking pretty bad, got to check that out.
Back in the pit, we found the oil leaking from the timing cover
seal. We can't fix it here, so Tim made a shield out of cardboard
to keep the oil off the headers. Hope it works, track officials
said we are getting the black flag if it doesn't. Added 3 extra quarts
of oil and let her rip. Shane is starting on the front row, outside since
Pete pulled a 0 for the invert. The race was kinda uneventful
for the first few laps. Pete pulled out front with Shane on his
backside and Corey in the 007 in third, just stay on the bottom.
About 10 laps into the race, lap traffic came into the picture. We're
running 3 and 4 wide through the turns now. Shane almost took Pete
in 3 and 4, but Pete hooked up a little better coming out of the
hole to hold Shane off for the remainder of the race. Checkers
flew and we are coming home with 2nd. I still can't believe that
the cardboard worked. The officials didn't believe it either.
They came to check it out after the race. The worst part was
Sunday morning, 10 dollars at the car wash to clean up all of
the oil.
Get back to you next week with more racing.
